  • The Rino Fournier Memorial Award Longest Distance Rider-Male

The Rino Fournier Memorial Award is presented to a male rider who travels the greatest distance to attend the festival. A close friend of Ben’s, Rino made several trips from his Moncton home to Laconia and the west coast. His grandson Matt Hicks was strapped to the back of his grandfather’s Harley before he could walk. Rino passed away from cancer a few years ago, and Matt chose to honour his memory by purchasing his own ride in 2010.

So if you’ve come quite a ways to be here, drop by the registration desk to submit your name for consideration. This award is also presented during the Awards Breakfast.

  • The Ben Richard Memorial Award

A Moncton native, Ben Richward was an avid rider who lived on the open road well into his nineties. Ben passed away a few years ago, but his treasured Harley Davidson is still on display at ATLANTICADE. Each year, the prestigious Ben Richard Memorial Award is presented to a biker who shares Ben’s passion for life. If you know someone with many years in the seat, send us a nomination email with a short description of why they deserve the award. The winner will be chosen prior to the 2018 festival and acknowledged at the Awards Breakfast.  Please note that the nominee must be an ATLANTICADE participant.

  • Gail Neilson Memorial Award Longest-Distance Rider Award-Female

The Gail Neilson Memorial Award is presented to a female rider who travels the greatest distance to attend the festival. Born and raised in Campbellton, NB, Gail spent her younger years zipping around town on a moped. In 1987, she became hooked on motorcycles after her son Randy took her for a spin on his new Harley Davidson. The following year, she took a motorcycle safety course with her husband and purchased a 650 Suzuki Savage. She would go on to purchase five Harley’s throughout her riding career. In 1990, Gail became one of the first New Brunswick members of the Motor Maids organization, attending her first convention in Emporia, Kansas the following year. Over her 25-year membership, she travelled to 16 Motor Maid conventions across North America, including the 2015 Moncton convention where she received a Silver Life Award. Gail’s final convention was in Sante Fe, Mexico in 2016 before she passed away on May 18th, 2017.

Gail received many long-distance rider awards throughout her life. Therefore, it’s only fitting that we name ours in her honour. If you share Gail’s spirit and stamina, don’t hesitate to submit your name for consideration.
